International law as an instrument for the social integration of “new minorities” while preserving their independent identity.

Description

Current international law does not adequately cover the special situation of immigrants who have been resident for a long time, so-called ‘new minorities’. The sub-project will examine whether and, if so, how the provisions of the most important treaty for the protection of the rights of ‘old minorities’ in Europe, namely the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities, can be applied to ‘new minorities’ and thus contribute to their better integration into society while at the same time preserving their independent identity.

Former authors

  • Dr. Nathalie Baumgart. Dr. Baumgart currently works as Human Rights Compliance Manager at Mercedes-Benz AG and as a trainee lawyer at the Frankfurt District Court. She studied law in Frankfurt as well as Human Rights Law in Cape Town and completed her doctorate on the topic of “Effective Protection of National Minorities by the European Court of Human Rights”.
